18th, 19th and 20th years, if the salary points during the probation period are included in the Assistant Superintendent of Police scale, and more favourable points throughout if the probation period on the Assistant Superintendent of Police scale is disregarded. I attach a table showing the effect of the "half service" rule compared with the present rule. Even this would not entirely eliminate any anomalies and in any case doubtless, a formula would be required for giving credit towards the next increment for an officer who has completed an odd number of years service.
